DREO Whole-Room Heater 720 vs 725: focused or 360°?
DREO gives the Whole-Room Heater 720 and 725 closely related names, but the choice is concrete: 720 offers focused or 360-degree airflow plus a fan-only mode, while the 725's heated-air path is 360-degree only and it has no separate fan-only mode. Both are 1,500-watt fan-forced PTC heaters with the same listed 900/1,300/1,500-watt heating steps. Choose around the direction and the exact operating information you need, not the model number alone.
Choose the airflow you will actually use
The 720 has two distinct heater directions: Focused to aim output toward a nearer target, or 360° to distribute it around the unit. DREO lists 12.8 feet per second for its focused airflow and 9.5 feet per second for the 360° setting. Its US comparison also lists Heat, ECO and Fan modes. The 725 offers the 360° direction only, with a listed airflow figure of 9.5 feet per second, and no fan-only setting. If a fan without heat is useful in the warmer months, the 720 is the stronger on-paper match. The product sources do not establish a fan-speed count for the 720, so do not select it to meet a hard requirement for twelve speeds or specific fan patterns.
Neither product should be described as fanless: both force air through a PTC heating system when producing heat. The 725's Fan mode omission means you cannot choose to run that fan with the heat off; it does not make it a still-air convection panel. The 711 and 711S are the separate DREO fanless convection models, with different floor/wall installations. Neither product's direction label is the same as an oscillation angle: 360° distribution or a focused outlet is not a selectable motorized swing.
Controls and timer evidence differ by the exact US manual
Both US product listings show three heat steps and ECO control from 41°F to 95°F; the 720 page specifies one-degree adjustment. A target setting is not an independent room-heating guarantee. For the 725, the US DR-HSH035 manual describes a 0–12-hour countdown that stops an operating heater, a separate default-off 24-hour continuous-use shutoff, and a 30-second fan cooldown after heat ends. It does not document delayed start. The manual also describes remote control, child lock, tip-over response and overheat protection.
The US support route for the 720 identifies DR-HSH040 but currently links to a Canada-labelled manual rather than a US guide. DREO's US comparison page lists a 12-hour timer, but that does not settle whether the US configuration can start from off or how the countdown works. Do not transfer the Canadian manual's electrical, clearance or timer instructions to a US SKU. If a precise timer routine or exact installation clearance is essential, the 725 is currently better documented for US operation; the 720's US manual bridge should be verified with DREO before use.
Put clearances ahead of body fit
The 725's US manual requires stable, level floor placement and at least three feet from a wall or combustible materials. It cautions against bedding and deep carpet and instructs the user to unplug and cool the unit before dry-cloth cleaning. Do not confuse the body footprint with its larger operating zone. Costco's US listing identifies the Silver DR-HSH040 and gives a body of 8.66 × 8.66 × 11.81 inches and a weight of 6.82 pounds; these are retailer-listed dimensions, not manual clearance instructions or independent measurements. The page does not separately document the Black SKU's dimensions, and the reviewed US materials still do not supply dimensions or weight for the 725. Check the exact finish and unit you will buy; body size never overrides required operating clearance. The 720's US manual remains unestablished, so obtain current US instructions before planning an unusually tight installation.
A practical decision
Choose 720 if the two airflow directions or Fan mode solve a real need and you can first confirm the correct US manual and physical fit. Choose 725 if a fixed 360° heater direction is enough and you prefer the available US manual's clear timer and placement instructions. If oscillation, a known body height, or more detailed fan speeds matter, compare the 718 or MC706 instead; the 718 has published dimensions and a 120° swing, while the MC706 manual lists twelve fan-only speeds and named patterns. For still-air convection, compare 711 and 711S rather than treating the 725's lack of a Fan mode as fanless operation.
