Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need eight numbered fan-only speed settings?
The FH500/FH515 New 3/26 manual says to cycle the separate fan control from 1 through 8.
Explore this need in the finder →Are three heater levels enough without counting the HF combination mode?
The shared manual lists H1, H2 and H3 as heat levels; HF combines high heat with a super-low fan.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want a removable intake-filter cover for routine cleaning?
The FH500/FH515 manual shows a rear cover released by a tab and recommends vacuuming intake grilles every two weeks.
Explore this need in the finder →Would an eight-hour auto-off countdown fit your supervised routine?
The manual documents an off-countdown up to eight hours and separately says not to leave the heater operating unattended.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you fit the 41.88-inch body and its clearance zone?
The page lists a 41.88-inch body; the manual requires three feet in front and one foot on both sides and behind from combustible materials.
Explore this need in the finder →The gray Lasko DUO Comfort FH515 and white FH500 are 42-inch tower combinations for people who want both ceramic heat and a separate fan-only setting. Their shared model-specific manual lists eight fan speeds, three heat levels, a removable intake-filter cover and an eight-hour off countdown; those details should not be confused with the older black FH610.
Two finishes, one shared model manual
The current U.S. Lasko native record associates the gray finish with SKU FH515 and the white finish with SKU FH500. Both are linked to the same New 3/26 FH500_FH515ES instruction manual, and that manual shows the FH515. The gray and white product-gallery images map separately to their exact SKU variants. The manual’s base snaps together and then locks to the tower with a turn; this differs from FH610’s older base-and-thumb-screw assembly.
One detail deserves a careful SKU check: Lasko’s shared product heading and overview describe four fan speeds, while the same page’s “Number of Speeds” field says eight and the FH500/FH515 manual numbers fan-only settings from 1 through 8. The model-specific manual is the useful control reference for these two SKUs. FH610 is separately named in the same three-color listing and has its own four-speed manual, so do not assume every finish in the combined page has identical controls.
Eight fan-only steps, three heat levels
For FH500 and FH515, the manual lets you cycle through eight fan-only speeds. Heat is a separate mode: H1 low, H2 medium or H3 high, plus HF for high heat with a super-low fan. That combination setting is not a fourth selectable heat level. Fan-only mode circulates existing air; it cannot cool a room the way an air conditioner does.
Auto Eco lets you set a room-temperature target. The manual says the heater uses high heat below the target, low heat when the room reaches the target through two degrees above, and shuts the heating element off when the room goes above that band; the fan keeps running for 15 seconds. The display is a room reading, not a measurement of outlet air temperature. These are manufacturer instructions rather than an independently tested thermostat-accuracy claim.
Filter access, remote and countdown
The manual shows a tab-release filter cover at the back of the unit and recommends vacuuming the intake grilles every two weeks. That is a useful maintenance difference from the FH610 manual, which gives an intake-cleaning interval but does not explain the same removable cover. Unplug the tower before cleaning and do not open the heater’s internal components.
A multifunction remote is included, but you supply two AAA batteries. The countdown can be set up to eight hours to turn the unit off; it does not start heat later. The manual says not to leave the unit operating unattended. Timer availability never overrides that instruction. Lasko lists no phone-app control, and the manual describes neither bathroom nor damp-location use.
Size, outlet and safety are part of the fit
The manufacturer lists a 41.88-inch body, 12.5-inch width and 12.5-inch depth, 120-volt supply, 7.5–12.5 amps and 900–1,500 watts. Those dimensions describe the tower, not the operating clearance around it: the manual calls for three feet in front and one foot at the sides and rear from combustible material. Use a level, stable floor; keep the intake and outlet clear; and position the cord so it is not covered or a trip hazard.
Use a direct wall receptacle only. The manual prohibits extension cords, power strips, surge protectors, multiple-outlet adapters and sharing the outlet or circuit with other devices. The heater is for dry residential indoor use, not a bathroom, laundry area, outdoor setting or damp room. The tip-over switch and thermal-overload cutout are useful protections, but they are not reasons to ignore spacing or supervision. If an overheat shutoff occurs, unplug the unit and allow ten minutes to cool before following the manual’s reset steps.
What the room-size claim does—and does not—tell you
Lasko’s listing states 300 square feet, but does not explain the test conditions or promise a particular room temperature. Insulation, drafts, ceiling height, outdoor temperature and where the tower sits all affect heating. Treat the figure as a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified room-capacity rating. The page also reports 11.5 pounds while the native record gives 8,618 grams. Because those weights conflict, weight is not used as a carrying or placement advantage.
The model page documents oscillation, but neither the FH500/FH515 manual nor the product detail provides a degree value. If a specific sweep angle is essential, the angle remains unknown. The product carries a listed three-year limited warranty. The paired product-page figures should not be read as test results for noise or heat delivery.
Who benefits from FH500 or FH515?
These versions are worth considering when a tall floor tower can stay in one supervised indoor spot, you want both heat and fan-only air, and more fine-grained fan-only steps matter. Choose FH500 for the white finish or FH515 for gray; the documented control plan is shared. Their strongest distinction from FH610 is the manual’s eight fan-only steps and removable filter cover—not a claim that they heat a particular room better.
Pass if you need an app, a later-start schedule, bathroom permission, unattended operation, a low-profile unit or a numerically specified oscillation arc. If the black finish is your priority, read the separate FH610 assessment; it has four fan-only speeds and a different base procedure. For the shorter 38-inch models, compare the FHV820 and FHV830. Follow the FH500/FH515 instructions when assembling and operating either finish.
