Lasko model comparisons
Lasko DUO Comfort 42-inch vs 38-inch heater-fan towers
Lasko’s DUO Comfort family includes more than finish changes. The 42-inch FH610, FH515 and FH500 have different model manuals and controls, while the FHV820 and FHV830 are shorter 38-inch configurations. Match the SKU and instructions before comparing fan settings or assuming one color is the same heater.
Model choices at a glance
| Exact configuration | Fan-only and heat controls | Setup and known limits |
|---|---|---|
| FH610, Black | Four fan-only speeds; H1/H2/H3 heat and HF high heat with super-low fan | 42-inch body; FH610ES manual uses a base fastened with four thumb screws; oscillation angle not specified |
| FH515 Gray / FH500 White | Eight fan-only settings in the shared New 3/26 FH500/FH515 manual; three heat levels plus HF | 42-inch body; rear filter cover is removable; snap-together, turn-lock base; sweep angle not specified |
| FHV820, White | Four fan-only speeds and three heat levels | 38-inch body; page gives a 60-degree horizontal swing value; weight records conflict |
| FHV830, Black | Four fan-only speeds and three heat levels | About 37.5 inches tall; swing is mentioned but no numeric arc is listed; page and native weight fields conflict |
Do not treat the 42-inch listing as one manual
The current 42-inch Lasko store row groups Black FH610, Gray FH515 and White FH500 under one native product ID and handle. That grouping is convenient for choosing a finish, but the accompanying model documentation is not identical. FH610 has a New 4/20 manual covering that single model. FH500 and FH515 share a New 3/26 manual. For these two newer SKUs the manual shows eight fan-only settings and a removable filter door; FH610’s manual specifies four fan speeds and does not show that same cover procedure. Read the exact model number instead of assuming a black unit is just another finish of the gray/white version.
The product page’s combined text is also internally uneven: its headline says four speeds, while a product detail field says eight. The model-specific manual resolves how FH500 and FH515 controls are numbered; FH610’s own manual confirms four. If a speed count affects your choice, use the exact label and the appropriate manual, not only the shared family heading.
Compare placement, sweep and everyday limits
All these products are floor towers with a fan-only mode, ceramic heat, a physical remote and an eight-hour auto-off countdown. They are not air conditioners, and the shutdown timer does not permit unattended use. The 42-inch bodies occupy more vertical space than the 38-inch FHV pair. The 38-inch FHV820 has a published 60-degree horizontal sweep; numeric swing for the other models is not established in the reviewed manufacturer sources. “Oscillating” is not enough to satisfy a required angle.
The family pages list room coverage and various motor descriptions, but do not provide a controlled, comparable test across these models. Do not infer room-heating capacity, quietness or energy savings from AC/DC motor labels, fan-speed counts or the room-size marketing figures. If a particular comfort claim matters, the manufacturer has not supplied a side-by-side test protocol here.
Keep electrical and clearance requirements in the decision
The 42-inch product detail lists 120 volts, up to 1,500 watts and 41.88 inches of body height; the exact manuals require three feet in front and one foot on each side and behind from combustible materials. The 38-inch manuals give the same general clearance pattern for their models. All four configurations are for dry indoor residential use, must be plugged directly into a wall receptacle and should not share an outlet or circuit with other devices. Extension cords, power strips and adapters are prohibited. Bathrooms and damp areas are not approved, and the instructions say not to leave them operating unattended.
Choose by the requirement that changes the answer
- Choose FH500 or FH515 when eight documented fan-only settings and the removable filter cover matter; choose the finish that matches your room.
- Choose FH610 if Black is preferred and four fan-only speeds are enough, but follow the FH610-specific base assembly steps.
- Choose FHV820 if its shorter tower and published 60-degree horizontal sweep suit your space; its weight remains unconfirmed.
- Choose FHV830 for its Black 38-inch configuration if its documented controls fit; its numeric oscillation arc remains unknown.
Read each long review before buying: FH610, FH500/FH515, FHV820 and FHV830. Their shared family name does not replace the exact SKU and manual distinction.
